The following is a
list of the PTA Committeees that organize the PTA
sponsored events during
the year. To volunteer for a committee or for more information, please
contact the chair person for the committee. For all other
questions, contact the Bridge School
PTA Executive Board. ACT (Arts
Created
Together) This program brings the Arts to Bridge School. ACT schedules events such as music, dance, storytelling, poetry and drama both school-wide and at each grade level, specifically geared toward curriculum. [
top ] ACT - Walk For
The Arts This is the ONLY fundraising event to support ACT’s creative arts programming. Kids collect donations and enjoy an interactive, fun walkathon. This group joins ACT members to plan the logistics of the walk. [
top ] Big
Backyard [
top ] The Book Fair raises money for the school library. Children will have the opportunity to buy books when their class visits the fair in the library, or after school hours with their parents. [
top ] Bridge
to Home Newsletter [
top ] Community Dinner A fun family event. An all school party – catered food and entertainment. [
top ] Community
Service This group helps students understand the spirit of volunteerism. Children can volunteer for projects such as stocking shelves at a food pantry, holiday gift giving to kids in need, and leaf raking for senior citizens. [
top ] The Bridge Announcement Email List keeps families at Bridge up-to-date with pertinent information. Visit the Bridge School Home Page for information about joining. [
top ] Family
Math Night Adult / child teams learn different fun ways of doing various math games and activites. Help plan and organize the nights by grade level. [
top ] Family Word
Night Based on the popular Math Night format, Family Word Night provides fun word related challenges and activites for parents and children to share. Rhymes, anagrams, opposites, and many other individual and group activities will be played. Word Night will be held for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders this year, expanding to other grades in the future. [
top ] Fifth Grade
Activities Organizes all special activities for the fifth grade class. [
top ] Gardening
Committee Maintains Bridge’s three gardens (butterfly, peace and colonial) located on the school grounds. [
top ] Gift
Wrap The sale of gift wrap is one of Bridge School PTA’s major fundraisers. [
top ] Hospitality Help coordinate volunteers for many functions at Bridge, including setting up for PTA meetings and others like the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. [
top ] International
Night An evening that showcases different countries, cultures, and cuisines. Volunteer on a planning committee or be in charge of a specific country. [
top ] Membership
Committee Promotes participation in the Bridge PTA. Distributes and collects BPTA membership forms and dues. Generates membership list. [
top ] METCO
(Metropolitan Council for Educational
Opportunity) An educational integration program providing opportunities for urban minority students to attend school in suburban school systems and for suburban students and staff to interact and benefit from a multicultural learning environment. Families in Lexington host students one Thursday afternoon a month throughout the school year. [
top ] Morning
Drop-Off Volunteers Volunteers assist students who arrive by vehicle in the morning. Goals are to provide safety for the students as they leave their cars and to keep the traffic moving. [
top ] Playground
Maintenance Committee Once or twice a year, inspects our playground and determines needs for new equipment and replacement of existing components. [
top ] An arts recognition program initiated by the National PTA over 30 years ago. Students are challenged to create works of art in any of the four categories: Literature, Music, Photography and Visual Arts. At the local level, all students are recognized for their participation, but outstanding pieces move on to be evaluated and recognized at the state level and potentially the national level. [
top ] Safe
Routes to School (SR2S) The main goal is to decrease car congestion around the school by promoting walking, biking, bus riding and carpooling. SR2S also works in cooperation with the town Sidewalk Committee to improve walking and biking routes to Bridge School. [
top ] School
Committee Meeting Observer Be a representative of Bridge School. The Lexington School Committee is a town-elected five-member board in charge of school policy. Attend one or more meetings (every other Tuesday) and report back to the Bridge School PTA. [
top ] School Directory Production and distribution of the Bridge School Directory. [
top ] Science Night An annual evening of hands-on science experimentation and exploration. [
top ] Sign
Board The PTA manages the white, glass covered sign board outside by the main school entrance. Posters for upcoming PTA and school events can be posted here. If you would like to put a poster for your event on the board, please contact the committee chair. [
top ] Teacher
Appreciation Breakfasts Teacher Appreciation Breakfasts are a way for parents to say “thank you” to the teachers for all of their hard work. The parents from each grade will have an opportunity to contribute to one of the breakfasts that all of the teachers enjoy in the teachers’ lounge before school. [
top ] Technology This
committee
will evaluate the current technology at Bridge School and, with school
staff and administration, investigate ways to enhance technology. [
top ] Promotes and organizes collection of spare change on Halloween night for Bridge School’s contribution to this organization which supports kids in need around the world. [
top ] Responsible for keeping Bridge School’s website current. [
top ] Welcome
Back Breakfast The Welcome Back Breakfast is held on the first day of school for parents to socialize, meet the principal, and sign up for PTA committees and to be room parents. [
top ] Y.E.S.
Program A fourth grade after-school science program. [
